Our Story

Joanna Sheen lives in San Diego with her husband and their pup Annie (who you will almost always see at the studio napping or giving free kisses).

Widely considered a Spray Tanning expert across the U.S. and specifically, San Diego, Joanna is trained in a variety of different tanning techniques, from the every day tan to Bridal, Fitness Competition and Contour Tanning. She created the Summer Sheen® brand in 2010 and opened Summer Sheen® in June of 2011.

In January 2018, Joanna was awarded the prestigious title of a Norvell Specialist - One of the initial 12 Specialists in the world.

Norvell University holds a time-honored place as the industry’s premier public facility of higher learning.  By teaching the basics of how sunless works, how to become a Master Sunless Technician and lastly, how to give clients everything they want and need.

As a Specialist, Joanna provides 1-on-1, hands-on, local, on-demand skills training for beginner and experienced spray tan artists. Sessions are open to individuals who wish to get their first, initial training as a spray tan artist, as well as, experienced handheld artists who wish to enhance their skills.

In 2017, Summer Sheen® won 1st Place in San Diego’s “A-List City Voter” for the “Best Tanning” division, winning over every UV and Spray Tanning Businesses in all of San Diego! “Summer Sheen” was also trademarked in 2017 through the USA Trademark Office.

Joanna and her company Summer Sheen® are also members of The ASTP (Association of Sunless Tanning Professionals), the sunless tanning industry’s first professional association committed to raising the bar of professionalism in the sunless industry. She and her employees also attend the yearly Summit in Las Vegas.

In addition to owning and running Summer Sheen®, Joanna is also the founder of Summer Sheen Pro, a spray tan distribution company for sunless pro’s and soon to be pro’s!

Today, Joanna is fully committed to the spray tanning industry. Having starting her business from humble beginnings, she now serves clients at her studio, trains students through Norvell University Academy and distributes spray tan products to businesses throughout the United States.

Thanks to all of the relationships Joanna has developed over the years, she is providing more Summer Sheen’s than she could have ever could have imagined!
